What’s in your purse?

It’s amazing what you will find in a woman’s purse. A wallet, of course. A bandage or two? A half-eaten snack bar? A pen that sometimes works? Most likely, there’s a large collection of random, unrelated things gathered along our busy way.
We were surprised, when we talked to women as we developed the ella health centers, to find that among the receipts and old packs of gum, a number of women were carrying around a reminder letter to get a mammogram. They knew they needed to get the test done. They wanted to take care of themselves. And yet, here was this important piece of paper so vital to their health traveling around with all the other undone tasks. What’s going on here?
Most likely it’s a combination of being busy and denial. Getting a mammogram means admitting that we’re getting older and it means thinking about cancer, which we’d rather not do. And yet we know that if the disease is diagnosed early, the treatment options are better.

So let’s face it. We’re busy. We’re running not only our own schedules but everyone else’s. We often put off the things we should do for ourselves, and it’s more tempting to do so if it’s something we expect to be unpleasant.
We at ella can’t give you more time in the day, but we have made it easier to schedule appointments. You don’t have to wait for months or even weeks. We can make your appointment within days, often on the very day that you call. We understand how complicated your schedule is, so we work with you to find a time that works best for you.
When you get here, we’ll have coffee and tea ready in the waiting room. We’ll have friendly staff ready to answer your questions and give you all the information you need about the procedure. We’re determined that this experience will be as pleasant as possible with special touches like heated robes and rooms at comfortable temperatures.
We have the best equipment available to ensure that the test is as accurate as possible, this includes the option of 3D imaging. This increases the likelihood of catching breast cancer in its earliest stages and reduces the likelihood that you will be asked to come back for a second test.
We are also working hard to keep your schedule on track. Your appointment generally will take no more than 20 minutes. And once it’s done, you won’t have to wait for several days or weeks to get the results of the test. We’ll let you know within 24 to 48 hours.

So don’t wait any longer, clean out your purse. Call us. Take a break from taking care of everyone else and let us help you take of yourself.
