Ella Health President and Chief Executive Officer Talks about Women’s Health
Ella Health announced that Joe Shikorsky was named President and Chief Executive Officer after having served as acting Chief Executive and Chief Financial Officer. He recently talked about his new role.
Q: You joined Ella Health as Chief Financial Officer. What drew you to the provider?
A: I’ve worked in the health care field for many years, and I believe we should focus on the patient’s needs. As providers, we need to do what we can to give our patients a better experience. That’s what Ella Health does. Our centers have been designed around what women have said they want as well as what they need.
Q: What do you consider to be the strengths of Ella Health?
A: Our technology is the best. We offer 3D mammography, an advanced exam that has been called revolutionary. It improves breast cancer detection and reduces false positives. It’s the test I want my own family members to have.
However, while the technology is great, it only matters because we have such a great staff who make a difference for our patients every day. Our mammo techs and center staff are committed to helping women relax and feel comfortable when they come to Ella. They’re genuinely interested in their wellbeing. They want to know what’s going on in our patient’s lives They take the time to talk with them and answer questions.
Q: What are you looking forward to in this new role?
A: I will be spending more time working with our partners in the community and looking for growth opportunities. We have a great service and we’d like to be able to offer it in more locations. We’d also like to raise awareness in our communities so that more women know they have access to quick, on-time appointments with results available generally in one business day.
Q: What do you want women to be aware of when it comes to getting a mammogram?
A: I think it’s important to ask about the exam itself. Who is reading the results? Ella Health exams are read by board-certified, fellowship-trained radiologists who specialize in women’s breast health. They are focused and have years of experience.
Q: Ella Health provides mammograms but also offers a lot of information about wellness. Why is this important?
A: This is part of our overall approach. Our role is to support women in taking care of themselves. Getting an annual mammogram matters, but it’s only part of the wellness picture. We recognize that our patients are concerned about their health every day of the year, not just the one on which they get a mammogram.
